Changing seasons. Changing views.

Le Port Butor lies in the heart of the Cotentin wetlands – marshes that support a wealth of wildlife and agricultural activity. Often flooded in winter but managed as pasture in the spring and summer they provide grazing and hay production for cattle and horses. In the summer, green pastures and spectacular sunsets. In winter, a huge lake teeming with birds.

The small Port (sadly non-existent now) goes back to Roman times, used for shipping grain to the coast. ‘Butor’ is the French word for ‘bittern’ – a now relatively rare marsh bird found in the region.

We are about 40 minutes from Cherbourg and about an hour from Bayeux. 1 hour 20 minutes from Caen. 30 minutes from St Lô.

The house is a typical Norman longère farmhouse, with an attached barn (La Grange), recently refurbished to create luxury gîte accommodation.

The luxury gîte comprises three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living and dining area, fitted kitchen and a mezzanine living area. Free Wi-Fi and television are provided.
Other options include a fourth double bedroom with en suite shower room, or rental of the entire house – five bedrooms, five bathrooms.

Rentals are on a whole week basis, but we will consider short breaks.
